Belarus’ active stance in SCO work emphasized

Belarus has always taken an active part in the work of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and has maintained a proactive position. Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Ming made the statement as he met with Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko, BelTA has learned.

Zhang Ming said: “I would like to congratulate the Belarusian nation on Belarus becoming the tenth Shanghai Cooperation Organization member state. We and colleagues have done everything we could to allow Belarus join the SCO family as soon as possible. This speed has not been recorded in the SCO history yet.”

He expressed confidence that Belarus’ accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will contribute to further development of interaction and to stronger solidarity inside the organization. “Even as an observer state Belarus always took an active part in the operation of our organization. We see your constructive position,” the SCO secretary general noted.

“It has been more than 20 years since the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was created. In this period we have achieved great success in various spheres of our interaction. In this period the geopolitical situation and economic situation have changed on the global scale. Our countries face new challenges and threats. But I can see new opportunities in it,” Zhang Ming stressed.
